New Feature Sneak Peek: In-Browser Calling with a Single Click

Written by Joe DeBari | December 12, 2013 at 3:16 PM

If you have sharp eyes, you may have noticed a new addition to our website— a small detail with a big implication. On the top right of this page, you'll see a button with our phone number. If you're using the latest Chrome or Firefox browser version, you can click to make an instant web call— no dialing or plugins required. Below is a closer look. (Oh, why don't you just give it a try? All prank calls may be recorded for quality assurance purposes.)

What is this button? This is the latest feature we're working on (now beta testing) here at OnSIP: InstaCall! The InstaCall button allows you to call OnSIP in Chrome or Firefox for a voice or video (coming soon) chat. And here's the best part: the button will soon be available as a customizable feature that can be embedded freely on any HTML webpage.

In practice, InstaCall will be able to be configured in the admin portal much like an Attendant Menu or a Conference Suite. Soon, customers will be able to create, configure, and save InstaCall buttons and caller views. Based on the options selected by the OnSIP admin, the Admin Portal then generates HTML code, which can then be copied and pasted onto any webpage.

Users can customize Instaall buttons in the OnSIP Admin Portal

WebRTC is a crucial component of InstaCall. When a user connects to make a call, InstaCall establishes a connection to OnSIP using WebRTC and places the call to the destination. This call will follow the same CPL rules as a normal OnSIP call, including group simul-ring and voicemail failover. Overall, InstaCall represents various components of OnSIP's robust platform working together to offer a WebRTC enabled calling experience.

"InstaCall uses WebRTC to streamline customer experience by allowing them to video-chat with a support representative directly from the company's website," says Software Engineer Joseph Frazier. "We look forward to combining WebRTC and telephony in future projects involving our core platform."

Stay tuned for more information regarding the Beta rollout of InstaCall— but here's a teaser: This OnSIP app will be FREE to OnSIP customers! Feel free to add questions and comments below.
